The endless train
A downloadable game
"The Endless Train” is my first game. Growing up in New York City, the subway system has always been an extremely important part of my life. Since a young age, it has offered transportation, been a gateway to see friends and others, as well as provided an opportunity to observe strange things. When nothing else was happening, I always ended up playing on my GameBoy. When the city shut down with COVID-19, I couldn’t use the train, and I missed it. I made this game to recreate those memories. I also created an animation of you walking through the train from one end to the other.
You are a child, playing a Gameboy, on the New York City subway system. You are playing a new game, entitled “Crimbie Quest”. The goal is to get as far as possible in the game, while at the same time observing the environment around you.
"The Endless Train” was a final project for my first semester class, “Core Studio/Seminar Objects”. The assignment was to make an autobiographical game. This was my first dive into 3D-modeling, Unity, and programming in C#. I also learned how to program shaders for this project. For the animation I primarily used Maya, where I learned how to model, rig, and light for this project, with emphasis on a heavily modified Arnold toon shader. Viewers must navigate their way through the hustle and bustle of a crowded New York subway train.
